"Naughty, puppy, you conjure such sexy images," Chase laughed. "You're giving me a stallion's boner!"Yup. You read that correctly. Read it again; really let that gem soak in...I hardly have words for how laughably terrible this story was. It was the epitome of everything I always thought shifter stories were before I tried my hand at the ones written by Cardeno C. and Kendall McKenna - a cheesy storyline, cheesier dialogue, embarrassingly bad world-building, and pathetic characters. Ugh, that's twenty minutes of my life I'll never get back and I only have myself to blame. Well, and the author. And the publisher. Shame on both of you!

2.4*Matt's mate leaves him right before Christmas to follow his dreams and he has a new boyfriend to go right along with those dreams. They had been a couple for two years but lucky for Matt, Chase his sexy neighbor is there to help him move on.There were parts of this story I really liked, I liked that Matt could call his partner 'mate' but it didn't mean the mine-forever-bond, they were shifters and mates, but just like with other couples they can split and move on.I liked that there wasn't any sex in this story, that they decided to take it slow, and Matt not moving on to jumping head first after only a week of being newly single.I liked the shifters in this story, I loved Matt's animal and Chase was a little bit of a mystery for a few pages.I like sweet, I'm a sucker for it, really, but some of the dialog and inner thoughts in this one was just a little too much and it sort of took a story that was cute and light into syrupy and annoying territory for me, but I'm sure others won't be bothered by it at all.(view spoiler)[ “I've met a few dog shifters but none as wonderful as you. In fact, you're the most wonderful anyone I've met in a long time. I think I've had a crush on you since the day I first saw you. Let's shift back so I can show you how I feel.”And this : “Had Chase's jewel blue eyes darkened for a moment like a cloud over a tropical sea, or was that just his imagination?” (hide spoiler)]

The last few days before Christmas can be stressful, and even as dog shifter Matt realizes his relationship with cat shifter Jason may be a bit iffy, the man breaks up with him. In a way Matt has always feared they wouldn’t stay together forever – they are too different. And he has sort of seen it coming, except he never wanted to believe what he saw.Matt takes it pretty well, even though he ends up feeling very lonely. But then, there is the mystery of his neighbor Chase to keep him busy. The man also keeps him guessing, since he cannot figure out what type of shifter he is. Not that it really matters, he is extremely attracted to the guy.Chase is strong, kind, and somewhat mysterious. He is also clearly interested in Matt, and when he invites him over for a beer, a while after the breakup, he is ready to reveal more about himself. They talk about his job, before he teases Matt outside to show him what he shifts into.If you like short stories about shifters, and if you prefer a bit of mystery over immediate jump-between-the-sheets-action, you will probably like this story.NOTE: This book was provided by Fireborn Publishing for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews.

Tossed aside like yesterday's garbage, Matt's Christmas holiday season starts out in the dumps. His sexy hot model boyfriend, Jason leaves him for an annoying twink. Matt is one kicked little puppy. In this shifter world, cats and dogs may get along, but they don't last as lovers. Jason's catting around definitely hurt Matt. While it's all looking down for Matt, his hot alpha neighbor, Chase, is pretty happy. Because now, Chase can get to know Matt in an intimate manner. This story is a sweet and short read. The main characters Matt and Chase are easy going guys. When the shifter shape of Chase is revealed, all sorts of dirty depraved thoughts may run through the reader's mind. Unwanted puppy Matt now has a new "owner" and he's more than enough to keep Matt happy. This cute m/m is recommended for paranormal romance lovers who enjoy a bit of Christmas spirit.

About 2.5 stars. This was a short holiday read that was nice. I would say the reason I didn't give it more stars is because of the length, and the fact that Matt was a little TOO nice and understanding about his mate, Jason. I mean, no anger or anything? Yes, I liked Chase - I thought he was cool and I liked the mystery behind what kind of shifter he was.

This was a very cute story, but I wish there was a little more world building.I have so many questions, like is everyone a shifter, what is an exotic, is everyone that is a shifter beautiful, and most of all if its winter why the fuck would shift back to human form when in the ocean?

This is a sweet story of getting dumped and finding something a whole lot better just over the hedge.

This review can be found atBrief Encounters Reviews.I liked parts of this book but others didn’t work quite so well for me. Matt is a dog shifter and he comes home early to find his boyfriend, a cat shifter hair stylist/model leaving with his friend. It seems Jason got a job as a model in London, but Matt always said he didn’t want to leave town and travel, so Jason is pursuing his dream. Matt’s sexy neighbor overhears the big moment and is sympathetic. After allowing Matt to wallow for a few days, Chase invites Matt over for dinner. Matt is torn, he feels a bit guilty he hasn’t been friendlier to his neighbor since he moved in a year ago, and he finds him sexy as well. The part I liked best was the break-up. That sounds bad, but I thought it was handled well. Matt was hurt, especially realizing that Jason was cheating on him most likely, but he also respected that Jason had to pursue his dreams and didn’t hold a grudge and wished him well. No big dramatic screaming matches or battles, just kind of a sad good-bye which is a nice change from psycho dramatic break-ups. I also thought Matt’s reaction, to hide away for a bit was well depicted. Who doesn’t want to curl up and lick their wounds after being dumped? However I found his attraction to his neighbor rather jarring. Supposedly he’d been in love with Jason right up until a few days ago, and sure, he kind of noticed his neighbor was hot, but while they talked about moving slowly, it just went really fast in my opinion. I did like the description of Matt who was an Alsatian, with white hair … everywhere. :-) And Chase was an unusual shifter, I’ll not spoil it what kind though. I think I would have liked to see another few chapters where Chase and Matt become friends first rather than hopping straight into a sexual relationship only days after Matt was dumped.Despite what I perceived as a rather quick ending, I liked Matt as a character who acted like a mature grown-up facing a sucky situation at Christmas. There’s not a lot of emphasis on the Christmas part either, so if you are burned out on holiday family reunions and gift-giving

4 HeartsReview posted at MM Good Book Reviews is shocked to come home early from work one day to find his boyfriend leaving him and is mortified that Jason does it in front of his hot next door neighbor, Chase. Even though Matt is still reeling from the break-up, he fantasizes about Chase and when Chase invites him to dinner, he wonders if there could be more to it than a friendly bite to eat. This is a very cute shifter story that will warm your heart. Matt is a great character, who even while his boyfriend is leaving him is still so generous and kind. It made my lip quiver in sympathy as he put on a brave face. Chase is a solid presence who seems to tease Matt with his pure hotness and who is willing to wait for Matt to be ready for a new relationship. Both characters are really good together and the kisses are sweet, but passionate.I would love to delve more into this shifter world where mates are chosen by the shifter and not fate and where there is no mate bond tying them together. where there are different shifters from dogs to horses to seals and bulls. The characters in this short story are well-developed and we see a brief shot of what they could be like together. I have to hope that there will be more from this couple in the future because they are just so cute together.I will recommend this to those who love shifters, hot men, mending a bruised heart, being naked on the beach at night and the beginning of a sweet relationship.

This was such a cute story! Although, I felt like I was reading a sequel or even dropped halfway into another book, I really enjoyed this one. It's not often I read stories on unconventional shifters and Matt being a Samoyed puppy and Chase being a stallion was very interesting! The book starts off very promising and strong. I really liked the fact that this story played with the mate concept without making it a permanent deal. Towards the end, the book started to get a little too sappy and while they don't confess their love for each other (because it's the first date), what they said felt more of a round about way of saying the "L" word. I still enjoyed the story but it lost a bit of its appeal when it went that route. Good Christmas story, though, that starts a bit sadly and ends happily.

A horse shifter and a dog shifter. Um, okay, well no. Not good and super short. Luckily it was over quickly. His boyfriend left him, he get together with the neighbor. There, that's it.

This shorty was okay, but the main storyline was to undeveloped, and to bland.
